Budget your way — & smarter auto-categorization

Two big rounds in beta : the Budget hub now clearly separates what stays free (set up envelopes, see this month's spending) from what Premium adds (live pace, alerts, rollover, auto-allocation), auto-categorization is smarter and safer, and sharing, Shortcuts and Handoff are more polished and reliable.

Budget — free to plan, Premium to track
  • Free to plan : creating and editing envelopes — amounts, seasonality and savings goals — stays free, and you can see this month's remaining budget at a glance.
  • Premium tracking adds a live pace and end-of-month projection, over-budget alerts (in-app and push), real rollover carry-over and smart auto-allocation. The 30-day free trial is on the annual plan.
Smarter auto-categorization
  • Auto-assign now skips reconciled transactions everywhere — preview, batch, launch and inline suggestions — and the "to review" badge clears once nothing is left.
  • It no longer replaces a clean payee with a raw bank label and never suggests a card line like "CB 21/06 …" (cleanup across all 7 languages). Premium even tidies raw bank labels toward the names you already use.
Sharing, Shortcuts & Handoff
  • Household : a read-only member is now clearly limited up front (no add, edit or invite), nothing is destroyed, and when a shared household ends the member side updates cleanly.
  • System integration : the "Search" Home Screen quick action opens search in Accounts, Handoff works end-to-end for a specific envelope or transaction across iPhone, iPad and Mac, and homebank.app links open straight in the app.
  • Bank connection : Lunch Flow now appears as its own clearly-labelled third-party connection. On Mac, "Cover overspend" and the Reports empty-state action reach parity with iOS.
Reliability & privacy
  • Renaming a payee or category used on thousands of transactions no longer freezes the app — the change now propagates off the main thread.
  • Backups now fail loudly instead of silently if a device key can't be written, and deleting a category or payee scrubs leftover references so nothing dangles.
  • Crypto price history drops invalid values before charting, recurring transactions schedule correctly around weekends and month boundaries, and the Share Extension no longer carries financial-info data it didn't need.

Smarter imports & multi-currency accuracy

A big pass on imports and on anything that touches a second currency : bank files are read more faithfully, foreign-currency totals tell you when they're approximate, and the iPhone transaction list is more compact.

What's new
  • Import wizard : when importing a CSV, set the currency, column separator and date order right in the wizard.
  • Bank files (QIF, OFX/QFX, CSV, MT940, CAMT.053) are read far more faithfully : large and comma-decimal amounts are no longer dropped or multiplied, foreign-currency transactions keep their real amount and currency, and a single bad row no longer aborts the whole import.
  • Honest foreign-currency totals : when a total uses an approximate (bundled) rate or skips a value it couldn't convert, the app now tells you instead of quietly showing a wrong figure — across the Dashboard, Net Worth, Budget, Distribution, Trends, Monthly and Annual.
  • Compact iPhone transaction list : redesigned rows fit more on screen with clearer amounts.
  • Settings, reorganised : household now sits under "Sync & Backup", account and plan items under "Subscription", with Manage and Settings aligned.
  • New "Cloud Data" screen shows a record-count grid of what's actually stored in iCloud, and the Monthly report gains ← / → arrows to jump between months.
Performance & stability
  • Bulk actions on big accounts — re-tagging, merging payees, batch-editing, applying rules, reassigning a deleted category — no longer freeze the app.
  • Round-trip transfers between the same two accounts now compute the right balances, and your base currency no longer silently switches to US dollars on some devices.
  • PDF exports get proper metadata and no longer produce blank pages, and VoiceOver now tells the Filter editor's "select all" buttons apart.

Receipt OCR & merchant logos

Less typing, more recognising. Scan a paper receipt, see brand logos in your lists, and let HomeBank suggest the right category.

Highlights
  • Receipt OCR : scan a paper receipt from the transaction editor and HomeBank pre-fills amount, date and payee. Fully on-device, in 7 languages — the receipt stays attached to the transaction.
  • Merchant logos : known merchants (Amazon, Netflix, Uber, Starbucks, Carrefour and 35+ more) now show their brand glyph in transaction lists. Unknown payees get a clean, colour-stable monogram.
  • Smart category suggestion : creating a transaction with a known merchant proposes a sensible default category.
  • Universal chart drill-down : tap a slice, bar or legend row in any report to open the matching transactions — including the Crypto allocation legend and Budget vs Actual.
  • Historical exchange rates : multi-currency transactions are pinned to the rate of their date, so Net Worth, Distribution, Trends and Annual stay stable across days.

Carbon footprint report

See the CO₂ impact behind your spending — free, on-device, and now adapted to your country.

What's new
  • Carbon footprint report (free) : estimate the CO₂ behind your transactions, with a 6-month trend chart, a sustainability profile and per-transaction overrides.
  • Country-adjusted factors : the report now adapts to your country, covering 32 countries with category-specific factors for food, home heating and aviation.
  • Your own annual CO₂ target : set a personal carbon target in Settings and compare it against the report.

More reliable sync & backups

iCloud sync, household sharing and backups are steadier across devices — fewer duplicates, clearer progress, and faster first-device setup.

Highlights
  • iCloud restore without duplicates : restoring during onboarding no longer creates a duplicate of every category, payee and account, and the restore sheet now shows live counters and closes itself when it's done.
  • Faster first-device sync : five device-only data sets now stay on the device that wrote them, cutting a fresh-device sync from around 85 s to about 10 s and freeing iCloud quota.
  • Household sharing that completes : turning sharing on or off for a big account now reliably finishes, you can share a joint account that has transfers to your private accounts (their names stay invisible to the other member), and the iCloud sync indicators stay live in Settings.
  • Backups that keep up : large backups (over 100 MB) no longer block the screen, encryption runs off the main thread, restoring a big backup no longer balloons memory, and receipts are now included in backups and fully restored.

Security & privacy hardening

A broad pass on what protects your data : a tougher App Lock, encrypted backups, and far less of your financial detail ever leaving the device.

Highlights
  • Tougher App Lock : Face ID / Touch ID / PIN now re-enforces when you return to the app, detects a newly added Face ID or fingerprint and forces a re-auth, and closes bypass paths via deep links, Handoff, widgets and Siri.
  • Encrypted backups, hardened : backup metadata and preferences are now encrypted with AES-GCM, backup passwords are stored with a device-bound key, and wrong-password attempts are rate-limited with an escalating lockout.
  • Less of your detail leaves the device : amounts, IBANs, payees and file paths are no longer written to the system log, widgets follow privacy-sensitive redaction, and notifications offer a discreet mode that hides the payee and envelope on your lock screen.
  • Screen-capture protection : the privacy blur that covers your screen during screen recording or AirPlay mirroring now also covers system sheets like the document picker and alerts.

Site update

A quick polish pass on homebank.app — no app changes.

Worth checking
  • Sun / moon toggle in the top nav to force light or dark, overriding your system setting. Your choice is remembered.
  • Accessibility page: more generous spacing between sections, easier to read.
  • Security page: backup encryption correctly described as AES-GCM (was previously "ChaChaPoly" by mistake).
  • FAQ fixed: clicking + expands / collapses again, and an open card no longer stretches its row-sibling.
